Hello everyone, my name is Jason. Where to start? Back in middle school (over 20 years ago) I flew balsa wood gliders with my dad for about a year. I hadn’t done much with the hobby until this last year when my wife bought me a RC Champ for Father’s Day – and it’s been fun.
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been thinking about what it would take to build a plane out of foam instead of balsa wood (e.g. time to build and the fun of creating something new from scratch). I searched everywhere about the subject and came across the “where to find fan fold foam” episode. I’ve watched quite a few of the “mygeekshow” episodes since then and I am seriously considering going this route. Very cool stuff!
Great job with the videos btw! I know I will have lots of questions – especially since everything has changed and I consider myself a new newbie.
Thanks!

Greetings Jason! I am currently building a Nova (from Trent's plans) out of beadboard. Coming from the stick build era myself, I find the use of this material a serious compromise between price (low), build time (short), and quality (fair to poor). I could not find the 'blue foam' board at my local Lowe's. That material looks to be better as it is extruded rather than expanded. It would also be denser and heavier.
It is not Trent's plan shapes and dimensions that are the problem. I have all the fuselage slabs cut (built my own foam cutter - subject for a different post). Perhaps this weekend I will add some ridgid members to compensate for the 'flexiness' of the material.
I would really like to do a stick build of the Nova. But I may save that effort for a Nova variation I have been sketching.
Anyway, Welcome!
