see the thing is 1.5w is way to much power that much power will do more harm then good also the max in my case would be 800mw which is the perfect power. 1000mw is ok too but i would not use it. also for your usa trip this would not be a good idea because cell phones effect 900mhz greatly so it might be a good idea to turn of your cell phone off next time you do testing. o yea and there might be a lot of cell phones on your usa trip so you wont get too much range.

400mw is too little for 5.8ghz because 5.8ghz does not give you that much range you could use a cp anttena which would help. 5.8ghz is greatly affected by obsticals as you saw at the small hill but the good thing is that it gives you solid picture when not effected by obsticals. i would not reqemend 5.8 for the usa trip too because there might be a-lot of things to get in the way.

to be exect only 1280Mhz is legal in usa with a ham tec class licence (i know you have that)

this sould give you a solid 1-2km or more and is not effected by wifi,cell phones, and is not that much effected by obsticals.

not to make things even better if you use a 8dbi ($29) patch antenna you will get a solid 5-12km yes a you tube person has tested it i ( he is very trusted) i can give you his link if you want.
